About Us

At the DARCUS FOUNDATION, we continue the legacy of John and Sarah Darcus by providing second chances through scholarships, grants, and community support. Our mission is to empower individuals, foster education, and create lasting change in the lives of those in need.

Background of the Family Foundation

The John T and Sarah Bolden Darcus Foundation was founded on May 20, 2021, by the family of John and Sarah Darcus. Their lifelong dedication to helping others inspired the creation of this foundation, continuing their legacy of offering second chances through scholarships, grants, and community programs. The foundation serves as a testament to their belief in fairness, kindness, and the transformative power of education.

A Legacy of Service and Compassion

John and Sarah Darcus did not have an opportunity for higher education but gained knowledge through reading, hard work, association, and experience. They believed in education and encouraged all who would listen to attain higher education. John and Sarah helped family and friends with tuition, funds to purchase textbooks, fed and brought clothes for students, and other items needed. They both were steadfast in their belief in becoming the best they can through education and sharing what they learned. The Second Chance Scholarship to be awarded through the Foundation will be consistent with the Foundation’s mission, goals, and values, granted through an application process annually and according to funding availability.

  • Integrity: We act with honesty, transparency, and fairness in everything we do.

Goals

Empowering Individuals and Building Communities

Our goal is to provide individuals with the tools they need to succeed, particularly those in need of a second chance.
